In hand with the steep grade, you will also be walking a trail with a lot of slippery gravel. Some people find the grass beside the trail is safer and the trial worth the effort to reach the stunning vista.
You can choose to turn around here or travel another 10 minutes or so to reach the second lookout and pillbox. The scenery along the trail offers breathtaking views whether you choose to complete trial another hour along the ridge or not.
The drive from Waikiki is about an hour to get to the starting point of the trail. Parking is limited and located beside the club.
The sign can be spotted on the left-hand side of the street. Whether you are a fitness enthusiast determined to run the trails or more of an ambler, you will find the ideal hiking trails to lead you to the unmatched views of Oahu.

It meant we were closer to having our baby boy. The pillbox is on top of a mountain that looks out to the beautiful beach of Lanikai. Lanikai has stunning clear blue, sandy beaches that you can look out to watch the waves crashing and the mokes that are just off the island.
Built for World War II, this trail features two of the military bunkers made for lookouts, these bunkers are now closed shut but very popular. Thankfully we had a Prius, so it didn't affect our gas mileage. This was actually an intense hike that I was not expecting, you are able to get up the hill pretty quickly due to the incline you face. Looking over the hill, down at the city below, climbing the red rock and feeling the strong wind gust. There were moments I thought Hugh was going to have to hold me down to keep me from blowing away.
Going down was harder than going up, just because of the uneven and steep nature of the terrain. There are two old concrete military bunkers at the top of the hike, which were once used as lookout stations during WWII. The bunkers are open to explore and their roofs are the perfect place to sit and take in the view. Plan to spend some extra time once you reach the top, because the view is breathtaking from every angle.
