Adi6phil said:. With motability you get the BP chargemaster. I filled my online forms in on the day i picked my zs up 17th Oct and they fitted the charger just before Xmas. But chargemaster said this was longer than normal. Ps i find the chargemaster is very good and the fitters were brilliant. Let me know how you get on. Kenuk Novice Member. The trouble is the unit they fit will not program for off peak charging so I have to get up in the night to plug the car in. If you are using the 3 pin plug that is supplied you can use a timer socket and program it for off peak. Im going to mablethorpe in a few weeks. Kithmo Well-known Member. Thanks for that, they are opening a new tesco on Golf Road Mablethorpe, work has, already started, so it will be free, I live in Sutton On Sea, best move I ever made.
We waited about 12 weeks for ours which didn't have any adaptations but was built to order. I think mine was about 8 weeks maybe just shy of that. I normally buy new cars but I have had one motability car and since it was top of the range with all the bells and whistles it was made to order and took four months but thats not bad when compared to my other new car orders.
All my cars have to be auto with hand controls and my current car is a highly specialised vehicle which take over a year go build. As others have intimated, it can vary. For example, if your chosen car is available in dealer or group stock, then it can be a relatively quick process, possibly a week or so. So it can be worth asking your dealer if they do have any in stock across their group, particularly if you are not too bothered about colour, spec, optional extras etc.
However if the dealer does not have your chosen car in stock and there are no others already built waiting at the factory compound, then it will be a new build which can take anything upto six months, sometimes even longer. Also if you spec a lot of optional extras, the chances are it will have to be a new build. Also automatic cars do tend to be new factory builds.
As the lease on my current car was due to expire on 30th June, I placed the order for my new one a Renault Clio ST Auto on 31st March - giving them the maximum amount of time possible to get the car delivered. However, my original order was held up because the colour I'd ordered was no longer available they told me 2 weeks after the order had been confirmed , so the process had to be started again mid April. Currently I've been given a provisional date of 16th August, which would be 19 weeks from order, but I'm assuming there may well be a further delay.
As motability are happy to extend my current lease for up to 6 months in this eventuality, I've no problem with this - in fact I love my current car, and would happily have kept it another 3 years, given the choice. But I know that is an annoyance for anyone moving to motability for the first time. To be fair, the manufacturers have all cut back on the stocks they hold, because they were not selling in the economic downturn.
