How does ideology disguise itself

Does this sound like the kind of country you want to live in? One expects the business lobby to engage itself on legislative questions pertaining to its own sphere, but beyond it? Big Business already has a lot of power over our lives — and now it wants more. The only force powerful enough to reign it in is the State. Whatever else you might say about the State, at least it is democratically accountable — unlike Big Business. Residing beyond the dangers of even greater corporatist control over our lives and politics is the deceitful branding and distractions that this exploitation of social causes, by design, engender.

If large corporations are crusading for voting rights, why would anyone regard them as a menace? The contrary is true: we should be grateful for their noble activism. When it comes time to identify the root causes of social pathologies, we will look elsewhere. The concentration of wealth and power in the hands of the corporate class and the ways they abuse and eliminate labor, control government, and destroy the working and middle classes will be impossible to see, as we are all blinded by the glare of their virtuous Instagram posts about racial justice and their unified campaigns against voter suppression.

In an instant of swooning over their benevolent devotion to social justice, we will forget what they actually exist to do. When we work to harness their power to support our own political causes, we forget about how out of control and menacing that power is, and what it is most often used for.

And that is exactly the way they want it. As I announced on social media earlier this morning, we are further expanding this Substack by creating a program to actively solicit and publish paid freelance contributions from interesting reporters and writers doing important work that would not fit within standard, conventional, dreary liberal media sectors.

The initial success of this page has already enabled me to expand this platform by hiring copy editors, a research assistant and a new video team. I'll have more shortly on the expansion of the journalism we want to do here and the ways it can be supported, but as always, we are an exclusively reader-supported enterprise which relies on readers subscribing either for themselves or as gifts for others.

The more we can grow, the more of an impact we can make with truly independent journalism. Click the link we sent to , or click here to log in.

We're officially under fascism. People don't see it yet but we are. Big corp and big gov printing money for themselves while killing our individual liberties. I just wonder when the camps will start opening for us.

Another brilliant piece from GG. The Democrats are turning into the party of the rich and elite classes; and the GOP the party of the middle and working classes. Interesting times. Glenn Greenwald Subscribe. About Archive Help Log in.

Big Corporations Now Deploying Woke Ideology the Way Intelligence Agencies Do: As a Disguise By draping itself in the finery of political activism, the corporatist class consolidates political power, corrupts democracy and distracts from its real functions. Peterson and an open invitation to him to amend and augment the following he is the clinician, after all , here, for diagnostic purposes, is a list of symptoms of ideological possession—that most fatal of epistemic diseases.

The symptoms of ideological possession manifest differently according to the possessing ideology. To be fair, it is not the case that all people who present with manifestations similar to those listed below are exhibiting symptoms of ideological possession.

It is, after all, quite possible to hold apparently simplistic or radical views that are very carefully arrived at with an open mind, good data, and intellectual honesty.

Nevertheless, believing the world is out to get you is a very good diagnostic marker for paranoia B is highly causally correlated with P.

So with that caution, the manifestations below are offered because I have witnessed each one, and when I did so, had reason to believe it was symptomatic of at least the early stages of the onset of ideological possession.

Fortunately, the epistemic immune system of most mentally healthy people protects them from ideological possession. The core of the immune response—and indeed an effective cure—is Love of Truth, specifically the holding of Truth as the highest moral value. Love of Truth, in fact, provides a near-perfect protection against ideological possession. Pathologically, ideological possession may even be understood as the substitution of that highest value by another. Love of Truth, in fact, provides a near-perfect protection against ideological possession because the disease, while deadly, has no defense against the honest admission by the afflicted of his or her symptoms.

Nevertheless, the most pernicious and subtle feature of the disease prevents the possessed from seeking treatment or treating himself: ideological possession can disguise itself in the mind of the afflicted as that very same Love of Truth that, in its authentic form, would cure it. What conditions, then, enable those in the grip of ideological possession—whose love of Truth may have already been replaced by a counterfeit—to cure themselves?

Together, these beliefs form an ideology supportive of capitalism by helping us make sense of why some people achieve so much in terms of success and wealth while others achieve so little. Within the logic of this ideology, those who work hard are guaranteed to see success.

Marx would argue that these ideas, values, and assumptions work to justify a reality in which a very small class of people holds most of the authority within corporations, firms, and financial institutions. These beliefs also justify a reality in which the vast majority of people are simply workers within the system.

While these ideas may reflect the dominant ideology in modern America, there are in fact other ideologies that challenge them and the status quo they represent. The radical labor movement, for example, offers an alternative ideology—one that instead assumes that the capitalist system is fundamentally unequal and that those who have amassed the greatest wealth are not necessarily deserving of it.

This competing ideology asserts that the power structure is controlled by the ruling class and is designed to impoverish the majority for the benefit of a privileged minority.

Labor radicals throughout history have fought for new laws and public policies that would redistribute wealth and promote equality and justice.
